Chelsea / Abramovich to Boehly-Clearlake

A sanctioned former owner, a licensed sale, 2026 ownership change and admitted historical payment breaches.

What the record says

The UK sanctioned Roman Abramovich and licensed Chelsea’s 2022 sale to a consortium including Todd Boehly and Clearlake. The 2022 ownership group reported historical undisclosed payments; the club accepted Premier League sanctions in March 2026. Chelsea announced in September 2026 that Clearlake affiliates would acquire Boehly and Walter’s stakes. The league found the payments did not cause a historical Profitability and Sustainability Rules breach. Corporate vehicles and beneficial ownership require entity-by-entity documentation; this record does not classify Boehly as an oligarch or every holding company as a shell.
